HISTORY REVIEW: OTTO MILK CONDOMINIUMS
OTTO MILK HISTORY AND PITTSBURGH
Designed by one of Pittsburgh’s premier architecture firms, (Indovina & Associates; Carnegie Science Center, Kids Kingdom at the Pittsburgh Zoo; Hotel Indigo@PTC) The Otto Milk Lofts building dates back to the mid 1800’s when it operated as a brewery, most notably, the Phoenix Brewing Company and plant. A supplier to Pittsburgh Brewing Company from 1899-1920 when it was closed due to Prohibition.
In 1927 the Otto Milk Company started production at the site and remained until 1973 when it merged with Keystone Dairy. The main building was converted into condos in 2006 and more recently, the bottling house became the new home for another premier Pittsburgh product, Wigle Whiskey.
With six stories of prime real estate overlooking the Pittsburgh’s “Strip District” the Otto Milk Lofts has a unique view of life’s cityscape. Views include Downtown, Pittsburgh’s core, the riverfront and unique views south and east where sloping hillsides are dotted with a mixture of historic houses, new development and uniquely Pittsburgh attractions such as the Duquesne and Mon Inclines and the world famed “City Steps” network that is still frequented by historians and pedestrians as an alternative mode of off-street transit.
